Andy’s Twelve Alternative Songs of Christmas: No 10
Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci - Christmas Eve
This song by 90’s Welsh indie band Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci only has four lines- and they’re right at the end, but it’s a lovely little festive song.
And the star you fell in love to
Comes out on Christmas Eve
And the star you fell in love to
Came out on Christmas Eve

Pet Shop Boys - It Doesn’t Often Snow At Christmas
Unmistakably Pet Shop Boys. Unbelievably festive. This year seems to be one of those ‘unoften’ times. My favourite bit is approx one minute in: “Bing Crosby. BING CROSBY!” Brilliant.

Julian Casablancas- I Wish It Was Christmas Today
Julian Casablancas of The Strokes doing a Christmas song? Dream ticket. It ticks all the ‘Christmas song’ boxes and it’s Christmas wish is considerably more practical than Wizzard’s.

The Kinks- Father Christmas
The Kinks failed to chart when they released this festive single in 1977. The premise of the song is a department store Santa getting a visit from poor kids who want cash (to survive!) rather than impractical toys. I like the innocence of the song- nowadays even the poor kids would probably be demanding a PlayStation 3 and Alien vs Predator on ‘Bluray’. I also like the fact that it is a good catchy rock song with an unequivocally festive intro.
